<p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>I think that we have always had concern about the level of regulation, but it doesn't mean that we are anti regulation. In fact, regulation has to be something that's there to protect consumers</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>or to protect the integrity of markets and to deal with bad behaviour. But unless the proposed regulation is addressing those matters, we shouldn't have regulation in my view at all. So in other words, the onus is on those who want to have regulation to make out why it should be the case of late. Perhaps there has been a little bit too</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>of regulation for regulation's sake, and that's when things get expensive. And then if you look at the proportionate increase that there has been in the costs of regulation for the insurance broking industry, some of those figures are so concerning that even the regulators themselves have expressed to US concern and have</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>endeavoured to get the issue of regulation addressed in a sense, more effectively so that we are only regulating where we need to regulate</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>well in terms of the extent to which the political class are engaged with the industry, Bieber exists for the purpose of promoting that channel of communication</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>when I was serving as a member of Parliament. As a minister in the government, I valued the relationships that we have with leading people in the industry as much as anything, because none of us are likely to have the detail of the of the challenges that the industry faces without having that dialogue with people in the industry</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>itself. Now, when an election is coming up, it's a renewed opportunity to share that load with others within the industry as well. Bieber have been engaged in this for some time, and it's interesting that at the launch of our Bieber manifesto, which again is all about engagement with the industry engagement with</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>regulators, we had, I think, five government ministers attending our presentation, and I think that that tells us two things. Firstly, Bieber is doing the right thing in terms of identifying the people that we should be speaking to. But also what it shows is that ministers value the engagement with Bieber as well.</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>We have had very good relations with Rachel Reeves and with Bill Esson. We've had other Labour members who come along for the odd occasion, let's say, but the engagement that we have with Labor's shadow front bench has been very, very good and we're very pleased by that.</span></p> <p><strong>Speaker 0</strong>: <span>Well, of course, one of the things that's going to be on my agenda over the course of the next number of months is the selection of our new chief executive. We, I think, are very impressed with the job that Steve White has done for us, and it's very, very important that I should leave the process of ensuring that the next chief executive is able to carry on that very, very good.</span></p>
